FAQ

What operating systems and hardware are supported for nodes?

You can run make87 nodes on Linux with amd64 or arm64 (also known as x86_64 and aarch64). We test on Ubuntu, Debian, and Raspberry Pi OS (64-bit).

Do I need a GPU?

GPUs are optional. Enable NVIDIA GPU support on your node if your workloads require hardware acceleration.

Can I use a virtual machine instead of physical hardware?

Yes. Virtual machines work the same as physical machines.

Why do I need sudo permissions to install the node client?

The installer requires sudo permissions to configure network interfaces, deploy applications, and mount peripherals. After setup, the node client operates with limited privileges.

What peripherals are supported?

make87 discovers and mounts any device under /dev and networked devices (e.g., IP cameras) that match supported protocols.

Do I need port-forwarding or a static IP?

No. make87 uses outbound connections and TLS tunnels, so you only need an Internet connection.

Do you offer an education or academic license?

Contact edu@make87.com to discuss academic or educational licensing options.

Why is it called make87?

The name comes from the supermassive black hole [M87], the first black hole imaged directly. “make” reflects our mission to help you bring Physical AI to life.
